Experiments are fun!

The Twirl and Swirl of Letters

Work on PAaA has slowed for the time being; however, I’ve been thinking about the structure of the novel. I’ve had a renewed interest in writing short stories; also, a few interesting characters revealed themselves.  They all have different perspectives that would be very fun to explore as main characters.

So, I’ve decided to experiment a bit.

The book will be written as a series of interconnected short stories, featuring many of the same characters, like “Claude’s Dog” by Roald Dahl. CD is a novella comprised of four or five short stories with interconnecting subplots. That’s how PAaA will run.

Part of the reason why I’m attempting this is because I want to follow EP, a female character, around her job. And as a snippet writer, this may help me from jumping around too much. 🙂

As loony as it sounds, I started dreaming about my subject manner…one of these inspired part of the short I’m working on right now!

  1. Interesting, Beth. My “Myth” started out as a collection of short stories. Originally I wanted to publish them as a serial in a fantasy magazine, either on line or in print. But when I told people about my plan they said, “No, No. You need to work these pieces into a novel format. You have too much to say to keep this material a group of non-integrated short stories. So for the last few years, I’ve been working on putting the pieces together.

Only after I started doing this did I realize that there were huge holes in Ahllie’s story that I did not see when it was in the short story collection method. The stories proved to be an excellent backbone for the novel, but now I know the novel was the way to go.

You may experience a similar dilemma. I’m sure your stories will be strong enough to stand on their own, but you fans will clamor for MORE! 🙂 Good luck!
